Review: Touch of Power

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life....

Touch of Power was an amazing story to journey through, Avry is a strong, determined girl who makes decisions that both break your heart and warm your soul. In a world where healers were hunted and killed, Avry must travel discretely and try to hide from the authorities of each town she resides in. Snyder wrote a story that is unique and original, I've never read something quite like Touch of Power, her choice of setting is one of my favourites and her humour embedded in her writing makes reading enjoyable and emotional.

The characters in this book are all different and, in a way, they are all understandable and real. Kerrick is a cold-hearted man desperate to save his leader, his emotions are locked away and he carries on in the world in hope of curing his Prince of an deathly disease. I liked his character from the beginning, even though he was cold and heartless. The choices he make in this story are sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes sweet. Belen is one of my favourite characters and I love his relationship with Avry and Kerrick. To me he represents what every girl wants for a big brother.

Overall, I loved Touch of Power and would definitely read it again. Snyder created a magnificent place full of wonderful characters that together formed a beautiful story. I cannot wait for the next book to come out, this book is awesome and hopefully the next one will be even better.
